Departing Thoughts
My art on burnt velvet A sinful surprize The last of my lovers With pain in her eyes A silhouette after dark, Her body by moonlight She's with me in flesh But her soul soon takes flight I can not now change The evil life I have led But with this poison by morning I too shall be dead.
Note: The artist is not pleased with his portrait of his lover so he is burning it. He was painting her by moonlight as she lay dying from an overdose. She had tried in vain to change him and as she leaves, in his sorrow, he decides to join her.
